With Google recently unveiling new rules requiring a company’s website be mobile compliant, it is more important than ever to create, update and have your website presence maintained, monitored and managed. In spite of all of the hard work many individuals and organizations have spent with Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Google’s new algorithm will ignore all that if their new mobile compliance rules are not met.
A website tells the story of your company, who you are, what you do, and can be a means of increasing your business by also serving as an e-commerce site for your company’s products, services and supplies. For other businesses, it can depict corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts (outreach), and serve consumers and employees alike.
In fact, a website is more important than ever because Social Media, effectively used, can drive potential customers back to your website where they can learn more about your company and products, generating leads, traffic and ultimately, an ROI. Like Social Media, a website can also provide feedback on the company, its products, its reputation and customer outreach. It is a way your target audience can interact with you or your company.
Some companies utilize user forums to gain feedback. (Yes, some still use toll-free phone numbers too). Like the phone or a chat room, a forum allows your company to get a clear view of what is on your customers’ minds. Why, one of the world’s largest anti-virus computer software companies uses both chat rooms and a toll-free number to connect customers with its customer service reps.
The key is to have your website relatively seamless, navigable, traceable, fully-integrated, mobile, and fully Google-compliant so that when it is compared with other more traditional forms of marketing and communications, it can be easier to make the marketing-to-sales connection or public’s perception-to-company connection.
Want to look at just how important being mobile is today? Look at the commercials for mobile auto-purchasing websites. They transport the potential purchaser to a single source of information. That should be a goal of your company’s website, regardless of whether you are selling a product, service or even yourself (like politicians or musicians and even up and coming stars).
Now, more than ever, to effectively compete and grow your business, you not only need a website, it needs to be mobile.
