Why do I / My Small Business Need a Publicist?
If you are one of the more than estimated 28 million small businesses in the United States, or a musician, band, author, doctor, dentist, lawyer or even a dog walker, you want to make what you do successful. Or, perhaps you wish to run for public office for the first time.
Sure you put yourself on Facebook, Twitter or, if appropriate, YouTube. You’ve gotten a few hits, some positive comments, and even some conversations, but it’s time to take what you do to the next level.
You want others to know what you do, how you/your business differs from others, and how to move forward. You know the answer. You need a publicist. But, you can’t do it yourself. You are concentrating on what you do best, and, like most small businesses, musicians, authors, medical and legal practitioners and even dog walkers, you just don’t have the time.
What you need is a publicist, an individual or firm, such as The Attitude Group, that has an experienced staff to learn your business and how to grow it. Simply put, you want exposure, and you want it leveraged against your company or personal niche. You want to be introduced to a larger audience. This would be accomplished through targeted press releases and media relations efforts tailored to your specific business. And, if you have a product or service, a publicist will undoubtedly serve your needs for growth, product awareness and how what you offer differs from others with similar goods or services.
For example, if you were a local restaurant or bar, you want customer traffic to increase. You want recognition for your specialties, but more important; you want to fit into the neighborhood you are in. The key to the latter is to have special events that give back to the community. A sponsorship of a local team may be one way. And of course, you want everyone to know what you are doing. How is that accomplished? Publicity.
But, retaining a public relations firm such as The Attitude Group, offers more than a source for generating all the good that you do. Suppose something happened? A fire? A bad review? A negative comment that can affect your reputation? Yes, a public relations firm is there also to help you with reputation management. In such an event, they would be there to respond immediately to the media or train you to do so. How you react and when you react can have a profound effect on you and your business.
Here are some other benefits: increased visibility to grow your customer/client base and/or brand; create a natural progression for media exposure and establish a foundation for ongoing publicity opportunities; help you develop co-branding opportunities with synergistic business partners; drive traffic to your website and social media platforms for increased individual, company, product and/or service awareness; and use press exposure to support business activities and enhance visibility within your own industry and among the masses.
In short, having a public relations firm such as The Attitude Group on retainer is liking having that spare tire in your trunk in case of a flat; like having a fire extinguisher near a stove or other area where a fire may be likely to occur; it is having a support team ready to help if and when you need it. Oh yeah, one other thing, it is a business expense that is tax-deductible.
