You may be a startup or an existing brand. Either way, social media may be one of the most cost-effective way to create buzz for you, your brand or your business.
Sure, if you’re established and have the money, you can hire a pop-culture celebrity for several hundred thousand dollars to do a single Instagram post.
But before you consider spending that kind of money, you should know that a sponsored post can be had for less than $1,000. Per mention.
Here’s why. Consumers check their social media an average of 17 times per day. And, they spend an average of 100 minutes on social media. This mean, if done right (using The Attitude Group), your targeted message is very likely to be read.
Statistical evidence of this shows that non-celebrity influencers are 10 times more likely to drive in-store purchases than if you used a celebrity.
In addition, millennials reportedly respond well to non-celebrity endorsement. And, 70 percent of 18-34 year olds say they prefer peer endorsements to celebrity endorsement. This is considered a benefit to startups and brand-builders because for less than what it would cost for a celebrity post, startups and brand-builders can engage a network of non-celebrities, reducing the risk while diversifying the types of individuals reached.
It’s important to remember too that quality pre-empts quantity. This means the more followers that an influencer has, the more people that will “hear” your brand message. The key is to build a community – a following – of those who will repeatedly boost your brand. Some online marketers suggest you offer incentives, compensation or higher compensation or even free product to keep them coming back. Some even suggest that frequent customers be offered perks to keep them as followers and repeat customers.
In addition, consider targeting influencers outside your industry or niche. This will enhance social media buzz about you, your brand or your business by creating greater appeal beyond your own industry reach.
